The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday said its nomination form for the September 10 governorship election in Edo State would cost N11 million.
Chairman of the party in the state, Chief Dan Orbih, made this known in Benin.
He said that PDP was a “beautiful bride who attracts higher bride price from her suitor’’ hence the N11 million cost of its form for the Edo election.
Orbih said that PDP would, in spite of its leadership crisis, strive to fulfil all conditions given by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for political parties participating in the election.
He recalled that PDP was the first to choose a date for its primaries and conveyed same to INEC.
He expressed confidence that the party would conduct hitch-free and fair primaries, where the most popular aspirant would emerge as its flag bearer in the state.
The chairman said that the party had carried out massive sensitization campaigns across the state, assuring that aspirant with the best interest of the people would emerge as acceptable candidate.
He said that there was no crisis at any level of the party, insisting that PDP remained “one big family’’.
“The rumoured crisis is an artificial creation of the APC, and orchestrated by the Press from the Lagos axis to divert Nigerians’ attention from the many complaints about their inefficiency and ineptitude.
“What happened was that we had a convention in Port Harcourt and every politician knows that the convention of any party is the highest decision-making organ of a party.
“It’s only a convention that can suspend a party’s Constitution and make amend.
“The party has constituted a seven-member caretaker committee to steer its affairs and conduct another convention.
“What the Press called parallel convention in Abuja was not a convention.
“It was a meeting of some party members, who had gathered to register their protest over attempt of then acting chairman, Ali Modu Sherriff, to convert himself to national chairman.
“That was the allegation; the members who gathered in Abuja thought that the convention was going to elect him formally,” Orbih said.
