Super Eagles’ Media Officer, Ben Alaiya, said on Tuesday that majority of the  players were fit and ready for the quarter final match on Saturday.

Alaiya said in Cape Town, South Africa that the team was working hard towards victory in their quarter final match.

He said a midfielder, Ikenna Paul, had a hamstring injury in the opening match against Mali, expressing worry over his ability to participate in the next match.

The Media Officer said: “I can say 95 per cent of the team is healthy.

“You saw Benjamin Francis, our combative midfielder, who didn’t play the last game against Bafana Bafana in training with the full team.

“He is fit, he is ready. The only person who is not ready is Ikenna Paul. You saw in canvass running around instead of boot.

“But, the medics and the coaches are watching him. He is saying that he doesn’t feel his hamstring again.

“He had a tear in our first game against Mali and that’s why he is not playing. That’s the only major cause for worry.

“Salami, who had a stomach knock during our match against the South Africans, is back. You saw him training fully, so he is fit,’’ he said.

Alaiya also said the team’s defender, Solomon Kwambe, would miss a match following the red card given to him during the group match against South Africa.

“By the rules of CHAN, I think it’s just a match ban. He will miss the match on Saturday, our quarterfinal match.

“If we make it to the semifinal, Kwambe will be back,’’ the media officer said.

Alaiya attributed the sudden change in the fortune of the Eagles to their total commitment and the technical crew to win the tournament.

He commended the NFA for the support given to the players and officials to excel at the tournament.
