Man arrested for allegedly defiling wife’s cousin in Ogun

Rape

A 29-year-old bus driver, Folarin Olorunto, who threatened his sister-in-law with a knife to be able to rape her, on Monday, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The driver, who resides on Odushola Street, Aboru, Ipaja, a Lagos suburb, is standing trial on counts of rape and threat to life.
The prosecutor, Inspector Clifford Ogu, told the court that the driver committed the offences on June 17 on Odushola Street, Aboru.
Ogu told the court that the driver, who was separated from his wife, visited his child in the custody of the wife, when he committed the offences.
“On getting to the house, the defendant met the 17-year-old sister-in-law at home, and when he discovered she was the only one at home, he shut the door.
“The defendant brought out a knife and threatened to stab the girl if she would not cooperate with him; hence, he succeeded in raping her,” he said.
Ogu said that the defendant ran away after committing the crimes.
“The defendant was later sighted and apprehended by the police,” he submitted.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 56 and 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The driver, however, pleaded not guilty to the two counts.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Akanni adjourned the case until July 17 for mention.
