The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has sealed three petrol filling stations in Sokoto city and its environs, for allegedly selling the commodity above the government approved pump price.
The Controller of Operations in DPR in Sokoto Field Office, Mr Mohammed Makera, disclosed this in Sokoto on Thursday.
He said that all the axed filling stations that belonged to independent marketers were selling the commodity for between N 155 to N165 per litre.
According to Makera, all the affected filling stations were fined N100,000 per pump, adding that the defaulters will not be allowed to re-open until they duly comply with laid down rules.
“Our Task Force enforcing compliance with the pump price is working round the clock in Sokoto and Kebbi.
“We are routinely conducting surveillance and raids, to ensure that no marketer sells above the approved price
“The have to change from their obnoxious old ways of cheating the unsuspecting motorists.
“ The officials of the department will also continue to enforce all the laid down safety and security standards in all the filling stations.
“Anything short of complying with the regulations by the marketers would be severely sanctioned by the department.’’
He expressed happiness with the current stability of the fuel supply situation in the country.
According to him, only yesterday, July 20, we got no fewer than 60 trucks of petrol, for Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
