Don’t hurry to court, Moro tells disengaged NSCDC staff

Abba Moro testifies before court, links Immigration ex-C-G to 2014 recruitment tragedy

Abba Moro

abba_moroThe Minister of Interior, Mr Abba Moro, on Sunday in Abuja, said there were internal mechanisms for resolving issues that arose within a ministry and other paramilitary agencies under it.

Moro made the disclosure while reacting to questions by newsmen about a suit filed against him and Dr Ade Abolurin, the Commandant-General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The suit, filed by some officers of the Plateau command of the NSCDC at the National Industrial Court, Jos, alleged wrongful termination of their appointments.

The plaintiffs are asking the court to declare the termination of their appointments as unlawful, null and void and that the defendants should be ordered to reinstate them and to pay all their entitlements from the date of termination.

Moro said the ministry and the corps had carried out a verification exercise and found that many officers were improperly employed into the corps.

The minister added that “following appropriate procedures and considering the report of the verification committee, we dismissed those persons.

“There are internal mechanisms for resolving grievances that these people may have; but anyone who chooses to go to court, we will meet them in court,’’ Moro said.

He stressed the need to reorganise the corps in order to properly place officers in positions commensurate to their qualifications.

He, however, emphasised that “anyone dismissed for illegally gaining employment in the corps will not be re-employed.’’
