Gov. Caleb Mutfwtang of Plateau has appealed to petroleum marketers in the state against creating unnecessary fuel scarcity following the removal of fuel subsidy.
The governor’s appeal is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Jos by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Gyang Bere.
The President Bola Tinubu during his inaugural speech on Monday announced the removal of fuel subsidy.
Mutfwang said that the subsidy removal should not be exploited by the marketers to hoard the products and increase its price thus causing hardship on the citizens.
“If the quest to build a new and united Plateau must be concretized, citizens must take deliberate steps to avoid issues that will further inflict hardship and pains on an already traumatized citizenry,” he said.
He noted that while government had taken deliberate steps to ease hardship and pains of citizens, it required the cooperation of the sector’s stakeholders to achieve the goal.
The governor appealed to all petrol stations in the state to open for business to address the current artificial scarcity in most parts of the state.
He, however, warned them against extorting residents, insisting that the state government would not condone any form of extortion.
