Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, on Friday, told those expecting him to resign over the allegation by former Chairman, House Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin, that he padded the 2016 Budget to forget the idea.

To Dogara, the idea of resigning as Nigeria’s fourth most-powerful citizen has never crossed his mind because padding is not an offence.

He spoke with reporters after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said: “I am a lawyer and have been a legislator for a while. I never knew of an offence called budget padding. It is not an offence against any Nigerian law. Since I have not committed any offence, the question of me resigning does not even arise”.

Dogara arrived the Villa at 2:25 p.m. and left at 2:58 p.m.
