Dispute with my wife largely based on money issues, husband tells court

Court

A Grade ‘C’ Customary Court at Bode Igbo, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday, dissolved 10-year-old marriage between one Suleiman Kasali and Zanaib over constant disagreement and fighting.
The Plaintiff, Kasali, who lives at Omi-Adio, Ibadan, told the court that his marriage should be dissolved because of the constant dispute between him and his wife.
The dispute, he said, was mostly based on finance which had never been resolved for once.
He said: “My wife had left me for months, leaving the children behind without checking on them due to my poor financial status.
“I was advised by my family members to set up a business for her, which I did with N19,000 when she returned home. But my wife does not know how to manage a business at all.
“Thereafter, she moved out again to a rented apartment, leaving me to cater all alone for the children who are between the ages of two and 10.”
Zanaib, however, said that her husband was fond of beating and cursing her.
“He even went as far as using a cutlass to threaten me.
“Kasali has not been performing his duties as a husband. He would give me and our three children between N200 and N1,000 as daily feeding allowance.
“Above all, my husband is his mother’s pet.
“He loves listening to his mum’s advice, disregarding anything I have to say in the home. He would always choose his mother over me.
“According to him, I always bring him bad luck to the extent that he purchased a land, started the building foundation and completed the house without notifying me.
“There was a time things were very hard and my mum and I advised my husband to consider becoming a commercial motorcyclist, but his mother refused.
“I have never seen my husband showing care whenever I am pregnant. He would rather refer me to my family. Of course, he didn’t pay my dowry,” she said.
The court President, Chief Muraina Agbomeji, dissolved the marriage, giving the wife the custody of the children due to their young age.
He also ordered the husband to pay N12,000 for the wife to rent an apartment and make N5,000 available for packing her personal belongings.
According to the president, Kasali will also pay the sum of N8,000 monthly for the children’s upkeep.
