A dismissed police sergeant, Makama Musa, who allegedly specialises in motorcycle snatching, has been arrested by the police in Bauchi State.
The Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Mr Mohammed Wakili, stated this in a statement on Wednesday in Bauchi.
He said that Musa was arrested wearing police uniform on Monday by a patrol team in Yelwa, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis.
“On June 22, at about 2030hrs, a patrol team attached to Yelwa police station, Bauchi arrested a serial motorcycle snatcher, one dismissed police sergeant, Makama Musa ‘M’, aged 34 years of Gombe, Gombe State.
“However, the dismissed sergeant was arrested wearing police uniform on Dass road, following a series of complaints by residents of the area.
“The suspect confessed to the crime and the following exhibits were recovered from him,” he said.
Wakili listed the exhibits to include Neon blue shirt and black trouser, device rank of sergeant and police badge and a Boxer motorcycle, with number plate: Bauchi: DBM 319 UR.
The police spokesperson said that the Commissioner of Police, Lawan Jimeta, had directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) for discreet investigation.
He said the suspect would be charged to court for prosecution and possible conviction after investigation.
Wakili quoted the police commissioner as assuring members of the public of the command’s commitment to the fight against crime and criminality in the state.
He, however, urged the people of the state to provide useful information that would assist the police in apprehending and prosecuting offenders.
