The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Monday in Lausanne, Switzerland said three appeals have been filed before it against the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF).
In a statement in Abuja, CAS said the appeals were against a decision of IAAF’s Ethics Commission dated January 7.
CAS said the appeals were filed by three athletics officials who were recently handed life bans by the IAAF, including Papa Diack, the former marketing consultant to the sport’s governing body.
The others are Valentin Balakhnichev, former President of the All-Russia Athletics Federation (ARAF), and Alexei Melnikov, former Chief ARAF Coach for long distance walkers and runners.
“They all seek to have their life bans from involvement in the sport of track and field annulled,’’ the media release indicated.
It added that CAS arbitration procedures were in progress, and CAS would not comment any further at this time.
