Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has said paucity of funds will not stop him from embarking on projects that will lead to the development of the state, as he has to reciprocate the support of the people all the time.
Speaking in Ikere-Ekiti while flagging off the extension of the dualisation of the Ado-Ikere Road, the governor said the people of the town and the state in general stood by him in his trying moments.
In a statement in Ado-Ekiti on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, the governor said he was ready to make personal sacrifices and forfeit some perks of office to ensure that the welfare of the people and the progress of the state were given priority.
“In the last one year, you stood by me, you supported me, you encouraged me, you prayed for me. I promise I will continue to serve you. We are undaunted by the poor finances of the state. That won’t stop our march to greatness.
“The dual carriage way was started by me and where I left it about 10 years ago is where it has been since. I will continue to support Ikere people, they are supportive of my political aspirations and I cannot under estimate them.
“During the last election, you voted massively for me. We are going to ensure that the project does not suffer any delay. The manner and commitment with which we worked on and completed the Elegberun Market is a pointer to our determination to serve you,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, the Ogoga of Ikere, Oba Adejimi Adu Alagbado, said the importance of good road networks could not be over-emphasised.
“The dual carriage way is very importance to Ikere because Ikere links two towns and states. We cannot over-emphasise the importance of good road networks to communities. It helps in the evacuation of farm produce, logistics is important to human activities and we need good roads for better economic activities,” he said.
The Ogoga also commended the governor for the construction of the Elegberun Market.
Also, the governor, who inaugurated a water scheme in Ikere, said the state government would provide the about N20 million needed to extend the water supply to cover the whole Oke Ikere.
At the College of Education, Ikere, where an e-library was inaugurated, the governor called on other well-meaning Nigerians and corporate bodies to support in providing quality education for the citizens.
At the Adunni Olayinka Women Centre, Ado-Ekiti, Fayose said it would also have a counselling unit for women and that issues relating to widows would be handled by professionals to be engaged there.
On what would form the focus of the second year of his administration, Fayose, who inaugurated the dualised road and street lights in Afao-Ekiti, said more infrastructural development would be the focal point of the government.
He explained that the airport project, Ado-Ekiti fly over and the new Ojaba Market were top on the list.
