Delta Gôvernor-elect, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, has pledged to be a servant-leader when he takes over the mantle of leadership in the State from May 29.
Oborevwori, who is the Speaker of the Delta House of Assembly, made the pledge during a courtesy visit on him by the College of Permanent Secretaries in the State Civil Service, on Thursday, in Asaba.
The governor-elect said: ”I have told the people of Delta that I want to be Gôvernor for all, I want to serve the the people and I want to be a servant-leader.
”It doesn’t mean that if you didn’t support me, we cannot work together. I’m coming to serve the people of the state, whether you are close to me or not.”
Oborevwori commended the Head of Service of the State, Permanent Secretaries and civil servants for their support towards his victory at the poll, pleading that it continue.
He said this would go a long way in attracting more development to the civil service and the state at large.
‘For me to succeed, you people have a great role to play.
”You must not be close to me for you to do your work. The policies of the state will be driven by you.
” I need your cooperation. If you are doing well, I will be doing well and if you are not doing well that means I will also not be doing well.
I know that we will do well in Jesus name, and I will be transparent in all that is needed to do the work by the grace of God,” he said.
Oborevwori also assured his guests that he would fulfil his electioneering promises to the civil servants in the state.
”I made promises to the civil servants during my campaigns and I will fulfil these promises. I am a promise keeper,” he said.
The governor-elect said that though the journey to his victory was not easy, he thanked God for his victory.
” I have been in politics for several years, but from that last year till now, this is the worst.
”It was hectic, stressful, traumatic, but I give God all the glory,” he said.
Earlier, the State Head of Service, Mr Reginald Bayoko, who led the delegation, said that the essence of the visit was to felicitate the governor-elect on his victory at the poll.
Bayoko commended the governor-elect for his leadership role as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly for the past six years.
He said: “For six years in the Assembly, you have been able to maintain harmony with your colleagues and the staff of the Assembly.”
He assured the governor-elect of their support and loyalty in driving the policies of the state government.
”As civil servants, we are not meant to be seen, we are meant to be heard by our leaders, and that is part of the fundamental codes, as civil servants,” he said.
