Almost three years after he ascended the throne of his forefathers as the 46th Deji of Akure land, Oba Adebiyi Adegboye Adesida, Afunbiowo 11, in the early hours of Sunday joined his ancestors.
He was said to have a complained of slight headache and was treated by doctors before he slept.
Oba Adesida, who until his death was the Chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, was 63.
The late monarch had two weeks ago organised an elaborate wedding ceremony for one of his sons in Lagos.
A family source told reporters at the palace that the monarch who had lung infection complained of slight headache on Saturday night.
According to the source, the late Monarch complained of a slight headache after which he vomited on Saturday night and he was attended to by a team of medical doctors who gave him first aid medication and stabilised his health condition before he finally went to bed .
After some hours that the late king was on the bed, it was gathered that a family member checked on him to know the level of his health, but discovered that the traditional ruler was no longer breathing .
Having found him dead, the person was said to have raised alarm, calling all members of the family around and palace staff. The doctors were also said to have been quickly called upon to attend to him but they confirmed that the Deji had passed on.
When reporters got to the palace, it wore a mournful look while staff of the palace and sympathizers were seen in groups, discussing the unfortunate incident.
Some of the personal belongs of the late Monarch were seen being moved out of the palace, all his cars were also parked outside the palace as according to the tradition of the ancient town, when an Oba dies, all his personal property would be evacuated from the palace to his personal house.
Similarly, the popular Erekesan Market were under lock and key while all the shop owners of the market, some of whom were crying like babies after hearing the sad news, were seen removing their items because the market would remain closed until a Regent is enthroned.
Born in 1950 to the royal family of Prince Josiah Stanley Adegboye of the Ojijigogun Ruling House, late Adesida graduated from the University of Ibadan with a degree in Agricultural Economics and obtained a Masters in Agric Business and Management.
Before he was installed as a king of the ancient town, the deceased working as an Agricultural Credit Officer with the Ondo State Agricultural Credit Corporation.
For some time, he worked at the Obasanjo Farms at Otta and later became one of the aides of the former President Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007.
It would be recalled that Adesida got to the throne of his forefathers following the dethronement and deposition of his predecessor, Oluwadamilare Adesina, who allegedly engaged his wife in a free for all.
With the death of Oba Adegboye from Ojijigogun Ruling House, it is the turn of Osupa Ruling House to produce the next monarch for the town.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commiserated with the people of Akure and the family of the monarch over the death of the monarch.
The PDP, in a statement by its Director of Publicity, noted with concern news of the untimely transition of the Deji.
His words: “His death is indeed a great loss to Akure kingdom which he led until his death and the State traditional institution which he also led as Chairman of the Council of Obas.
“His reign as Deji of Akure, though short, was equally remarkable, his loss is indeed devastating and we pray that God will give his family and the institution he represented the fortitude to bear his loss.
“We equally condole the people of Akureland and encourage them to be strong in this trying times. We pray that God in His infinite mercy will rest his soul peacefully.”
