Deceased victim told me he was a cultist, kidnapper, policeman tells panel

A policeman,  SP Justine Adaka, on Tuesday alleged that Daniel Agori confessed that he was a cultist and a kidnapper.
Adaka said this while testifying before the Independent Investigation panel on human rights violations by disbanded SARS and other units of the police sitting in Abuja.
Victoria, the petitioner and mother of the deceased (Daniel) filed a petition alleging arbitrary arrest, detention and extra-judicial killing of her son, Daniel.
The petition was filed against SP Justine Adaka,  DSP Yusuf Bello,  Victor Nelson,  Musa,  IGP monitoring unit,  Aluminum,  Ikwerre,  Rivers,  Commissioner of Police,  Rivers and Inspector General of Police.
Adaka,  the first respondent told the panel that on May 5,  2019,  one Golden Osarumubem,  reported to them  (police) that his wife was kidnapped.
“We waited for them to ask for ransom. We monitored the negotiations via an electronic tracking device to monitor.
” We tracked 07060553704, which belonged to Daniel Agori”, he said.
Adaka told the panel that his men went to the house with a duly signed search warrant and arrested Agori, his fiancee  Silver Ogbonna, his younger brother  David and his mother, Victoria.
He said according to his men, Victoria constituted a tried to prevent the officers from carrying out their duties.
” A locally made gun was found in the house and Agori confessed to me at the station that the gun belonged him.
“His father told me he knew a day like this will come,” he said.
He told the panel that Agori’s father also blamed his wife for “spoiling his children”.
He also said that Agori took his men to their hideout where the police engaged the other members of Agori’s gang in a shooting.
“Agori was shot and I asked my men to take him to the University of Port-Harcourt  Teaching  Hospital  (UPTH).
” He was later confirmed dead.
” His body is at the University of Port- Harcourt Teaching  Hospital morgue.
“It is not true that Agori was killed in our station ” he told the panel.
When asked by his counsel,   James Idachaba,  when it was right for an officer to use gun,  he said “we fire our guns when our lives are in danger”.
After the testimony, the chairman of the panel, Justice Suleiman Galadima (rtd), adjourned the matter until March 17 for continuation of defence
The deceased’s mother told the panel that the police took her, her two sons and Agori’s fiancé to the Unit Command,  Aluu,  Ikwerre,  Port-Harcourt on May 10,  2019.
She alleged that upon arrival at the station,  after a brief chat between SP Adaka and DSP Yusuf Bello, they ordered that Agori should  be killed immediately.
When asked what she wanted the panel to do for her, she said:”we want the panel to order for the prosecution of Adaka,  Bello and Musa before a court of competent jurisdiction.
“We also want the police to release my son’s corpse for proper burial.
“We further pray for the order of the panel for compensation of N1 billion”.
