Crisis hits Wike’s exco as media aide resigns

The crisis in Governor Nyesom Wike’s administration has deepened.
On Friday, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Opunabo Inko-Tariah, resigned.
For weeks, there has been tension in the administration because accusing fingers are being pointed at some close aides of the governor alleged to be working for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It is believed that many of the exco members are convinced there was no governorship election in Rivers State on April 11 and that Wike will soon be sent packing from the Government House.
The ruling of the tribunal against Wike further confirmed their fears.
A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state told Freedom Online: “Obviously, many of his aides believe that the APC candidate, Hon. Dakuku Peterside, will soon be sworn in as governor. So, they are not really interested in working for Wike again. Of course, they are politicians and they will naturally go to where their bread is buttered. Because of this, some key loyalists of the governor have been mandated to watch out for ‘traitors’ within. This is causing serious tension inhouse”.
Inko-Tariah, in a resignation letter to the governor on Friday, said unfolding developments in the state indicated that his services were no longer needed.
He said that throughout his service as Media Adviser, he did not threaten any journalist or policeman.
“However, with unfolding developments, it is clear that my services are no longer needed.’’
He thanked the governor for giving him the opportunity to serve him and the state as a Special Adviser.
