Edo State Police Commissioner, Mr Chris Ezike, on Monday warned Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the state against taking bribe and extorting money from members of the public.
Ezike gave the warning at Agenebode in the Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo during a familiarisation tour of divisions under his command.

He said that any policeman caught in the act would be shown the way out.

“Officers should avoid extortion to gain confidence of the people.

“We must be up and doing to prove our worth in the society. Corruption is not allowed because you will be sacked, if caught.

“Police officers that extort money or carry out other illegal activities should be ready to face dismissal,’’ he said.

Ezike said the State Government had provided the command with necessary facilities to rid the state of undesirable elements.

“The governor has provided us with equipment and we must do our best to protect lives and property of people in the state.

“You all must be on your toes to complement the efforts of the government by ensuring that crime is reduced to its barest minimum, if not eradicated,’’ he said.

The CP, however, commended the DPOs for their efforts in crime prevention in their respective areas and urged them not to relent.
