Nestle Foods Nigeria Plc has donated items worth N32 million to Enugu State Government to support the state government in its fight against the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
Presenting the items to the Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on Monday, the south east zonal manager of Nestle foods, Mr Afolabi Adeloye, said that the items were “High quality foods products worth N32 million “. They include a trailer load of Milo Berevrage, a trailer loaded with cartons of Golden Morn, Milo cereal, water, Maggi cubes” to enhance quality of life.
Adeloye expressed optimism that “these products will help families in Enugu in healthy living”
Responding, the Deputy Governor, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo, who represented the governor, thanked the company for the gifts.
“That shows you are feeling the heartbeat of the people due to the lockdown, but Nestle decided to wrestle, that’s why you brought all these. ”
“I promise you we are going to give these to the vulnerable, the widows, those who should have them, “she said.
In a related development, the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA) on Monday donated palliative worth N4 million to Enugu State Government to ease COVID-19 stress.
Handing over the items to Mrs Ezeilo, the ECCIMA vice president, Jasper Nduagwuike, said that the COVID-19 is hitting people hard.
”We want to support the state government with this little item in its fight against COVID-19.
” This is our little contribution to what the state government is doing, assisting the most vulnerable victims of the pandemic, ” Nduagwuike said.
He said that ECCIMA deems it necessary to contribute to the state government’s fight against the pandemic.
In her response, Mrs Ezeilo thanked ECCIMA members for the gifts and promised that the items will reach the targetted people.
Similarly, Procter and Gamble Nigeria Limited , a detergent manufacturing company based in Lagos donated bags of soap and 90 kg detergent to frontline workers in Enugu.
Handing over the palliative to the Deputy Governor, the Special Adviser (SPA) to the Governor, Mr Ikenna Nwodo who facilitated the palliative, said that the item is meant for the most frontline workers in the state.
He added that the palliative include 4,000 bags of soaps and 3,000 90kg bags of Ariel.
The SPA said that the detergents are for the COVID-19 frontline workers to ensure they wash their hands regularly to ensure their safety.
Responding, Mrs Ezeilo appreciated the gesture and promised the company that the items will be shared to the targeted groups.
In her words, “I appreciate you peoples’ donations, I promise that all the items will reach the people it was meant for”.
