Covid-19: Fayemi, Umahi test negative, as Nigeria’s total rises to 43,151

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has recovered from COVID-19, after 11 days in isolation.

Fayemi , in the early hours of Saturday, confirmed this development on his verified Twitter handle.

The governor thanked God and his numerous well wishers across the globe for his recovery for their prayers and support.

He announced that he had been infected with the virus 11 days ago and consequently proceeded on self isolation.

Shortly after then, Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Muyiwa Olumilua, announced in a statement, that wife of the Governor, Mrs Bisi Fayemi, his family and members of the state cabinet had undergone the COVID-19 tests to determine their status.

Health Commissioner, Dr Mijisola Yaya-Kolade, followed suit few days later to confirm that the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Mr Wale Fapohunda, and some unnamed members of the state cabinet had also tested positive.

Fayemi, while breaking the latest news on his Twitter handle, on Saturday, had tweeted thus: “After 11 days in isolation, I received news that my COVID 19 repeat test came back negative.

“My sincere gratitude goes to God Almighty, my family, my medical team and all well wishers for the prayers and solidarity.

“We must continue to do all we can to tackle the pandemic”. 
Also, Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, his daughter and three of his aides have tested negative to COVID-19
Umahi, on July 4, announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19 but will still be working from isolation.

Mr Uchenna Orji, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, made the disclosure in a statement on Friday, noting that Umahi was full of praises to God for his healing.

“The governor confirmed the development in a statement he personally signed. He also thanked Ebonyi people and Nigerians for their prayers and solidarity,” Orji said.

Meanwhile, Nigeria has recorded 462 new cases of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Data from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) showed that the cases were spread across 15 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The NCDC made this known on its official twitter handle on Friday night.

The health agency noted that one more person died from the disease.

According to it, till date, 43,151 cases have been confirmed, 19,565 cases have been discharged and 879 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and FCT.

The 462 new cases were reported from 16 states – FCT (93), Lagos (78), Plateau (64), Kaduna (54), Oyo (47), Ondo (32), Adamawa (23) and Bauchi (19).

Others are Rivers (9), Ogun (9), Delta (9), Edo (7), Kano (6), Enugu (6), Nasarawa (5), and Osun (1).

The health agency said that a multi-sectoral national Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) was activated at level-3, continues to coordinate the national response activities.

Meanwhile, NCDC announced that two new laboratories have been activated for inclusion in the NCDC Molecular Lab Network.

“These are Molecular Diagnostics Lab, Gombe State Specialist Hospital and United Nations IOM Lab, FCT.

“There are currently 61 laboratories with capacity to test for COVID-19 in the NCDC network of laboratories,’’ it stated.
