As the spread of COVID-19 infection keeps increasing in Enugu State, the Anambra Motor Manufacturing Company (ANAMMCO) has donated free hand washing device and cartons of Antibacterial hand washing soap to Enugu State Government in the fight against the pandemic.
Presenting the items to the Enugu State Government on Thursday, the General Manager of the company, Mr Iheanyichukwu Ogbonna, said that the company manufactured the machine, adding that the donation was their first support and that the company may do more.
In his words, “We, of ANAMMCO Ltd, first and foremost, want to appreciate the Enugu State Government for its patronage to the company in recent times. Enugu State Government gave us a life line. made us to stand on our feet as a company.
This is why we are here together with our Executive Director, Uche Okeke, and others to make a gift token of this free hand washing device developed by us. The Device will help the government in the fight against the spread of COVOD-19 pandemic”.
Ogbonna said that the company appreciates the state government’s efforts in the fight so far.
” Here, we have 11 free hand washing devices and 20 cartons of Antibacterial Hand Washing soap. This is an initial support and we expect to do more”.
Responding, the Deputy Governor, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo, appreciated the company for donating the items to help in the fight and protection of the citizens against the COVID-19 pandemic.
” The most aspect of this gesture is that it is hand free because COVID-19 is contagious and highly infectious.
” Health experts advised us to watch our hands regularly and this device was produced in such a way that you operate it with leg to avoid contaminating the device.
” We appreciate and now that the Federal Government has come up with guidelines for schools reopening and one of them is this kind of project.
” You have raise the mind of the state government by providing this gadgets that is going to help us in the schools, ” she said.
The deputy governor said that the device will also be stationed at the hospitals and public places like markets and others.
” You have touched the minds of the people and as for the state government’s support to ANAMMCO, that is our duty and we have no option.
” In producing this, you have given our children homework because it is not easy to operate.
” Your visit will be relate to his Excellency as the government will still do more for your company, ” she assured.
Meanwhile, Ugwuanyi has distributed palliative to the physically challenged in the 17 local government areas of the state.
Presenting the items to the local government chairmen for onward distribution to the beneficiaries in their various local government areas on Thursday, in the Government House, Ugwuanyi, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs Ezeilo, urged the chairmen to distribute the items judiciously to the beneficiaries.
He said that the gesture was in furtherance of “His Excellency’s magnanimity and commitment to the wellbeing of the people of our dear state, especially the less privileged and various groups in the society”.
The deputy governor told the chairmen that the state government, since the outbreak of the pandemic, has been distributing food items to widows, the poorest of the poor and various groups to cushion the effects of the pandemic on them.
She mentioned the items donated to include bags of rice, noodles, spaghetti, groundnut oil , macaroni and cartons of tomato paste.
The Deputy Governor told the chairmen that a family is entitled to one bag.
Responding on behalf of other chairmen, representative of the State ALGON chairman and deputy chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Oguejiofor Anike Mellitus, thanked Ugwuanyi for his good governance in the state, especially for identifying with the physically challenged.
He promised that the items would be shared judiciously.
With the Deputy Governor was the Commissioner for Inter-ministerial, Mrs Marbel Agbo.
