The Nasarawa High Court in Lafia on Thursday, sentenced Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death for killing his girlfriend, Salome Adaidu.

The convict killed Adaidu, his girlfriend, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and dismembered her body.

Delivering judgement, Justice Simeon Aboki, said he found Ajayi guilty of killing and dismembering the deceased.

He, therefore, sentenced him to death by hanging for culpable homicide.

Reacting to the judgement, counsel to the convict, Umaru Yunisah, said he had done his best the court had delivered its verdict.

He noted that it was now up to the convict and his family to appeal the judgement.

On his part, Raymond Umaru, Prosecuting Counsel commended the court for upholding justice and enforcing the law.

The prosecution said the convict has 90 days to appeal the judgment.

He added that if the convict fails to appeal within the stipulated time, the Ministry of Justice would recommend to Governor Abdullahi Sule to sign the death warrant.

Also reacting, Samson Adaidu, uncle to the deceased expressed satisfaction with the judgement and thanked Nigerians for their support throughout the trial.

The convict was arrested by churchgoers on Sunday, January 12, 2024, in Orozo, a community bordering the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and the state carrying a bag containing the head of the deceased.
