Justice Peter Kekemeke of an FCT High Court, Maitama has ordered that an agent, Moses Anyaoha, be remanded in the custody of the correctional service for attempting to sneak out of the country.
The police charged Anyaoha with 17 counts, bordering on conspiracy, defrauding, impersonation and forgery among others.
Following an application by the prosecutor, Mr Peter Amadi, urging the court to revoke the bail granted the defendant, Kekemeke granted the prayer.
Ruling on the application, the judge held that the affidavit and submission by the defendant’s counsel can dissuade him to the contrary.
” The defendant was not allowed to travel out of the country during the pendence of the suit.
” He failed to do so by wanting to sneak out of the country.
” He does not deserve the discretion of the court, the bail is hereby revoked, the defendant shall be remanded in the custody of the correctional service ” he held.
Kekemeke adjourned the case until October 27 as earlier given for trial.
Anyaoha was arraigned on July 14 on an amended charge of 17- count by the police.
The prosecutor, Amadi, had earlier told the court that the defendant on January 26, 2011 conspired with others now at large and broke into late DCP Augustina Ihesiaba’s residence at Maitama.
Amadi further accused the defendant of an intent to dishonestly take the land document of next of kin to the late Ihesiaba.
He added that the defendant collected N4 million from Faruq Ahmed with a promise to sale land to him and also defrauded Dr Charles Mamman of his N5.5 million.
Amadi said that these offence contravened the provisions of sections 97 (1), 345 of the Penal Code, and 1 (1)(c) of Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence.
He was granted bail in the sum of N10 million and two sureties in like sum.
In the application filed by the police to revoke the bail of the defendant, Amadi told the court that the defendant was trying to sneak out of the country.
He said that the defendant was caught by the immigration Service at the Abuja Airport and was detained and handed over to the police thereafter.
