An Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State, on Wednesday, extended the jail term of a 29-year-old prisoner, Moses Babatunde, by one year for escaping from prison custody.
The Magistrate, Mr Banji Ayeomoni, extended the jail term which would have ended on June 19, 2018.
The accused, who begged for leniency, pleaded guilty to a count charge of unlawful escape from prison custody levelled against him.
The prosecutor, Inspector Zedekiah Orogbemi, earlier told the court that the accused on May 5 around 10 a.m. at 19 Battallion Army Barrack in Okitipupa, escaped from custody of a warder, while on special assignment.
He said that the accused was serving a three-year jail term in Okitipupa Prisons, which was to terminate on June 19, 2018 after being convicted in 2016 for robbery.
Orogbemi added that the offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 135 (a), of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State 2006.
