“For Nigeria to be delivered from the various problems facing the nation, youths must have PHD.”
PHD, across the world is recognised as abbreviations for Doctor of Philosophy.
However, in the words of a Dallas-based Nigerian Real Estate businessman, Mr.Edward Ejike Okpa, Convocation lecturer at the 3rd Augustine University (AUI) Convocation lecture which took place on Thursday in Ilara- Epe, Lagos State, PHD means Passion-Hardwork-Dedication.

In the lecture titled: ” What is your PHD?”, Okpa insisted that for urgent solutions to be found to the various problems facing the nation, youths must have passion to move the country forward.

They must also be hard working and dedicated to the goals of socio-economic and political transformation of the country.

Citing the problem of electricity supply in the country as an example, the guest speaker asked a rhetorical question: “Who will deliver Nigeria”?. He stated that “125 years after Nigeria got electricity as the first power plant was built in 1896 – Ijora Power station in Lagos, 14 years after U.S. got hers, 64 years before independence, Nigeria is still struggling to have dependable and reliable electricity for her population”.

Okpa told the graduating students that what would propel them more after their graduation from the University is Passion, Hardword and Dedication.

Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Christopher Odetunde, congratulated the graduating students and their parents.

He disclosed that having graduated at least two sets, the university would soon commence postgraduate studies in some of its programmes.

Professor Odetunde further hinted that the University would soon commence programmes in Engineering, Law, Nursing, Human Resource Management, Security studies and Medical Laboratory Technology.

A total of 45 students from Faculties of Science and Humanities, Management and Social Sciences graduated at the ceremony, seven of the students bagged first class.

Amongst top dignitaries at the Convocation are His Eminence, Anthony Cardinal Okogie, Archbishop Emeritus of Lagos, Most Rev.Dr. Alfred Adewale Martins, Archbishop & Metropolitan of the See of Lagos, Rt.Rev.Monsignor Dr.J.K.A Aniagwu, Chancellor, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, HRM Oba Olufolarin Kayode Ogunsanwo and his wife, amongst others.
