Nigeria Premier League Club Owners have rubbished the N1.89 league sponsorship deal signed by Globacom with the Nduka Irabor-led League Management Company claiming that they were not carried along in the procedures.
Glo on Monday at their corporate headquarters in Lagos signed a three-year deal to bankroll the league.
The association of the 20 premier league clubs chairmen otherwise known as Club Owners has declared that they were not aware of any of such deals as it was brokered without their knowledge and approval.
The Club Owners have also threatened to disassociate itself from any further deal entered into by the Nduka Irabor-led LMC until the current issues being handled by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is settled.
However the association has warned that unless the issues are settled no club should allow any bill board or pitch panel bearing LMC Ltd or any of its sponsors at league venues forthwith.
Speaking from his base in Ilorin, the Acting Secretary of the Club Owners, Mr Alloy Chukwuemeka, told Sports Compass that: “The issue of League Management Company Ltd is still a matter of debate which the NFF is trying to make peace over and as such the Nduka Irabor-led group does not the right to sign any deal or receive any cheque on behalf of the league clubs without our knowledge and supports.”
He said the Club Owners are still waiting for the NFF to reconvene the meeting as the first one was inconclusive. Some salient issues must be thrashed out before any deal could be entered into by anybody.
Chukwuemeka added that, the rush by LMC in accepting a cheque is a mere celebration of mediocrity as similar deals in the past between the league and Glo had brought more money than what they are celebrating.
According to him” look all I can say now is that since we had the inconclusive meeting last time we are yet to meet, so there was no occasion where it was agreed that the LMC should sign a deal. So we are still waiting for the NFF to reconvene the meeting.
” I know is that the clubs are not aware of any deal sealed in Lagos and even at that the amount in question that is being celebrated by the LMC is small compared to what Globacom had done in the past for Nigeria Premier League.”
