A leading National Prophet, Tayo Popoola, Head Pastor of Divine Favour Prayer Assembly Ministries, Mowe, Ogun State, has charged media professionals in Nigeria to be cautious, careful and watchful to avoid being eliminated by enemies of the press.

Popoola said this during a national prayer for the nation at the headquarters of the church in Mowe on Sunday.

The cleric gave the advice as a result of a revelation from God adding that ” all lovers of the press should join hands and pray against an impending new wave of assassination of media professionals in the country”.

According to the cleric who is an Associate Professor of Mass Communication, media professionals are agents of peace, development and national transformation.

“The records are there concerning the progressive activities of the press during colonial and post-colonial administrations in Nigeria”.

The man of God said the press gave independence to Nigeria and similarly fought against the military to give us the current democracy which we are enjoying.

While noting that so many journalists have been killed during active service in the past, he said we cannot afford to lose more.

The cleric, therefore, advised media professionals to be cautious at news gathering stage while also suggesting a parrotic approach in carrying out their investigation in order not to fall into the traps of the enemies of the press.

Popoola urged the journalists to be ethical in their conducts and to display professionalism in all their reports adding that ” they must not engage in anything that could warrant anybody pursuing them with death”.
