Christmas/New Year break: Police deploy 7,878 personnel in Bauchi, Plateau, Nasarawa

The Bauchi State police command is to deploy 2,832 of its personnel across the state to ensure peaceful celebration of christmas and new year in the state.
State Commissioner of Police, Mr Sanusi Lemu, stated this in a statement in Bauchi on Monday.
“The Bauchi State Police Command wishes to assure the good people of the state of its readiness to perform its mandatory and statutory duty of protection of lives and property of innocent citizens in the State.
“The Command is fully prepared to deal with hoodlums, political thugs and other disgruntled elements that may cause panic among the public during the period.
“The command  would also collaborate with sister security agencies and all stakeholders to ensure peaceful and hitch free celebrations.
“To that effect, the command has designed an operation order for effective deployment of Officers and Men,as well as all necessary logistics, to all Churches and venues of events in the State.
“Therefore, the command would deploy a total number of 2,832 Officers and Men,” he said.
Lemu therefore directed all Divisional Police Officers and Heads of Departments to personally supervise the deployment of their men and patrol their areas of responsibilities throughout the period.
He called on the people of the state to cooperate with the security agents towards ensuring peaceful Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The Police Command in Plateau State said on Monday that it had deployed 2046 personnel across the state to ensure hitched-free celebrations during Christmas.
DSP Terna Tyopev, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state made the disclosure in a statement.
Tyopev said that patrol vehicles had been stationed at strategic locations to respond to distress calls without delay.
“We want to assure residents of Plateau State that we have put in place comprehensive security strategies to prevent crime before, during and after Christmas.
“As such, a total of 2046 police personnel have been carefully selected, trained and deployed to protect lives and property of citizens.
“Also, we have professionally position patrol vehicles in strategic areas to respond promptly to distress calls from members of society,” he said.
Tyopev said the police would synergise with other security agencies in the state to ensure a crime-free Yuletide in the state.
The PPRO also reiterated the command’s earlier ban on the sale and use of fireworks in the state, and warned that anyone caught in the act would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
He advised residents of the state to be security conscious, particularly during the festive season, urging them to report any suspicious movements around them to the security agencies.
Also, the Police Command in Nasarawa State says it has deployed 3,000 personnel to places of worship, recreational centres and other public places across the state to ensure a hitch-free yuletide.
Commissioner of Police, Mr Yahaya Bello, said this in a statement by the command’s spokesman, ASP Samaila Usman, on Monday in Lafia.
Bello said the personnel included undercover operatives for surveillance and intelligence gathering as well as uniformed policemen.
He said that the police had mounted patrols on the highways and some identified flash points to curtail the excesses of criminals who might want to take advantage of the festivities.
“We have reinforced our patrol around axis identified as black spots for armed robbery and other criminal activities by injecting more mobile policemen to stem the tide of criminality in the state,” Bello said.
He called on the people to use the Yuletide for sober reflection and prayer for the peace and stability of Nasarawa and the country at large.
He enjoined the people to remain peaceful, law-abiding and love one another irrespective of ethnic or religious affiliations.
The police commissioner further advised the people to be vigilant and report any movement of suspicious characters or any breach of peace to the police for prompt action.
