To commemorate this year’s Children’s Day celebration, the Madam Moesillo Foundation and the Silver Cross Hospital, Abuja, organized a children’s day funfair for over 300 children at Piwoyi community in the FCT.

The event, tagged “Pikin Belleful” had the support of the Queen of Warri Kingdom, Queen Atuwatse III.

Mrs Diana Eyo-Enoette, Co-founder of Madam Moesillo Foundation, said that the event which is the sixth edition, is aimed at reaching the less privileged in the country.

“The whole essence of this is to support the zero-hunger campaign and support to reduce the poverty level in the country.

“We know that a lot of good people and other philanthropist are doing things around education, health and so on, but as a foundation, we decided to feed the less privileged in the society.

“This is because if you do not eat, you can’t function well as a person, not to talk of assimilating anything you are taught.

“This is our little contribution of giving back to the society,” she said.

She called on the President-elect to give children needs priority once he takes over office.

“We beg for the basic things like meal on every child’s table, we know that the present administration did a lot on feeding school children but some of these contractors did not deliver effectively.

“But the new administration can partner with organizations like ours that are passionate about feeding children and feed these children.

“They can also offer free education and free healthcare for children between zero to five years, these would give our children a sense of belonging and this is how we can build the spirit of patriotism in them,” she said.

For her part, Dr Nnenna Okechukwu, Head, Clinical Services, Silver Cross Hospital, Abuja, said that the hospital decided to provide free medical screening to celebrate the day with the less privileged in the FCT.

“We are here to provide some basic medical care to these children, because some of them cannot access proper health care services, due to the financial status of their parents.

“We have so far screened them of malaria parasite, Hepatitis B and C and we also checked their weight and those that tested positive to any illness have been given medications.

“It is our joy to see healthy children in our societies as these children would one day become the leaders of this country,” she said.

Ms Sandra John, one of the beneficiaries appreciated the NGO and the hospital for celebrating the day with them, while praying for God’s blessings upon them.

Drugs, food stuffs, snacks, clothes, shoes, bags, snacks, drinks, among others were given to the children.
