Burkina Faso National team coach, Traore Drissa, said on Saturday that his team lost to Nigeria over a lack of concentration.
The home-based Super Eagles defeated Burkina Faso 2-0 in a 2016 African Nations Championship qualifier played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.
Drissa, who spoke through an interpreter, said the loss of concentration at a point, gave Nigeria the match.
“My first impression is that we played the match and made it so easy for Nigeria. At a point in the game, when my team suffered loss of concentration, Nigeria scored all their goals.
“Even the first goal, one could clearly see that it was a lack of communication by my defenders that gave Nigeria the opportunity to score,’’ he said.
Drissa attributed cause of the second goal, scored via a penalty, also to loss of concentration.
The coach said the team would work hard to win during the return match in Burkina Faso. “We can overturn the two goals in less than 30 minutes in the second leg match’’.
Bature Kawu scored Nigeria`s first goal in the 24th minute while substitute player, Gbolahan Salami scored the second via a penalty in the 77th minute.
Super Eagles Assistant Coach, Salisu Yusuf, said the team could have won match with as much as 4-0.
“ We just finished a tough match. A match we could have won with as much as 4-0. We thank God, the boys did very well. The Burkinabe’s are good. Twice on a counter attack, they could have scored.
“Generally, my team did well. We made some mistakes and we will get back to the drawing board to rectify them. Generally, we had a good game,’’ he said.
Another Eagles’ Assistant Coach, Jean Francois Lascuito, said it was unfair for the Burkinabe coach to say that the Eagles were not tactically disciplined.
He said Nigeria was tactically disciplined and deserved the win. “We had some lapses and we will correct them before the second leg.’’
