Newly-crowned African Player Of The Year, Ademola Lookman, has vowed to remain focused to be among the best footballers on the continent.

Lookman won the prestigious award ahead of Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, South Africa’s goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, Borussia Dortmund’s forward Serhou Guirassy, and Brighton’s Ivorian winger Simon Adingra.

The Atalanta forward has, however, declared that it’s time for more work.

“It’s a great feeling to be in the finals and to win the award and I believe it is a challenge for me to do much more.

“What I have experienced is massive and I want to be in the final among the best again and if possible, win again. It is not going to be easy but I will work hard and be at the top again,” he said.

Lookman also noted that the tight position of the Super Eagles was a big challenge for him and the entire team.

“We just have to turn things around in the New Year. It is the dream of every player to feature at the World Cup. It is the biggest event and we will be all out for it collectively since we still have games on hand to climb up in the group,” Lookman added.

Nigeria is currently 5th in a group of six in the World Cup qualifiers with three points after playing draw in three games and losing one. Rwanda is on top of the Group C with seven points, same as South Africa and Benin Republic in second and in third positions respectively.

Zimbabwe has five points from one win and two draws while Lesotho are bottom of the table with two points after playing draw in two games.
