The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Fola Oyekunle, has won the Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election.
The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Abiodun Oluwadare declared the result of the election in the early hours of Sunday in Ibadan.
Oluwadare said that Oyekunle of PDP scored a total of 18,404 votes to defeat his closest rival, Adewale Olatunji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 8,312 votes.
He also said that African Democratic Party (ADC) candidate, Femi Akin-Alamu polled 88 votes while Olabisi Olajumoke of All Progressive Grand Alliance had 40 votes.
“The candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Hammed Badmus had 18 votes.
“Oyekunle of PDP having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declare the winner of the election,” he said.
The Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat became vacant following the demise of Rep. Olaide Akinremi of the APC on July 10.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also declared Isa Mohammed (Ihamo) of the APC as winner of the election for Zaria Kewaye Constituency seat in the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
Prof. Balarabe Abdullahi of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, the INEC Returning Officer for the election, announced the result in Zaria.
Abdullahi said Mohammed secured 26,613 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nuhu Muazu of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who scored 5, 721 votes.
He added that Mahmud Wappa of the People’s Democratic Party PDP scored 5,331 votes to come third.
“Isa Haruna Mohammed of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner and returned elected,’’ the returning officer said.
However, the returning officer said of the 19 political parties that contested the election, only six parties presented candidates for the by-election.
Alhaji Dahiru Umar-Sani of APC was also declared the winner of the election for the Basawa Constituency seat in the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
Prof. Nasiru Rabiu of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, the INEC Returning Officer for the election, announced the result in Zaria.
Rabiu said Umar-Sani secured 10, 996 votes to defeat his closest rival, Muazu Danyaro of PDP, who scored 5, 499 votes.
He added that DanBala Usman of SDP scored 811 to come third, while Mahmuda Almustapha of ADC polled 146 votes.
“Dahiru Umar-Sani of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared winner and returned elected,’’ the returning officer said.
However, the returning officer said of the 18 political parties that contested the election only four parties presented candidates during the by-election for the Basawa State Constituency Election.
Meanwhile, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) secured victory in the Bagwai/Shanono State Assembly by-election held on Saturday.
NNPP candidate Ali Alhassan emerged as the winner with 16,198 votes, defeating his closest rival from the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 5,347 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Prof. Hassan Shitu, announced the results on Sunday.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of the former lawmaker representing the constituency, leaving a vacant seat in the Kano State House of Assembly.
In Ogun State, INEC declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mrs Adesola Elegbeji, as winner of Saturday’s Remo Federal constituency of Ogun by-election.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Kazeem Bello, made the declaration at the Ikenne collation centre in the early hours of Sunday.
He affirmed that Elegbeji satisfied all electoral requirements and therefore stood elected as the new representative of Remo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Bello said that Elegbeji polled a total of 41,237 votes to defeat his closest rival , the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Bolarinwa Oluwole, who garnered 14,324 votes.
The returning officer explained that, at Ikenne local government, APC scored 10,227, PDP got 5,595, while at Remo North local government, APC garnered 8,053, PDP 992 and at Sagamu local government, APC won with 22,958 with PDP scoring 7,737.
” That Elegbeji Adesola Yetunde Ayoola of APC having satisfied the requirement of law is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Bello said.
The former member representing the constituency , Adewunmi Onanuga died on January 15 after a brief illness.
In Anambra State, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidates won the by-elections for the Anambra South Senatorial District and the Onitsha North Constituency of the State House of Assembly held on Saturday.
INEC announced the two results on Sunday in Onitsha and Nnewi Local Governments respectively.
The Returning Officer at the INEC Office in Nnewi, Prof. Frank Ojiako, declared Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu of APGA, the winner of the Anambra South Senatorial seat.
Nwachukwu polled 90,408 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chief Azuka Okwuosa, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who scored 19,847 votes.
Mr Donald Amangbo of the African Democratic Congress(ADC), emerged third with 2,889 votes.
Ojiako said: ” I hereby make the declaration that Emmanuel Nwachukwu of APGA, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.
The death of Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South in the Senate in July, 2024 necessitated the conduct of a by-election which was contested by 12 political parties on August 16.
The INEC also declared Ms Ifeoma Azikiwe the winner of the Anambra House of Assembly, Onitsha North Constituency 1 by-election.
Announcing the results in Onitsha, the INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Ibiam Ekpe, disclosed that Azikiwe of APGA scored 7,774 votes to defeat her closest rival and the candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mrs Justina Azuka, who pooled 1,909 votes.
He said that the candidate of the APC, Mr Ezennia Ojekwe and that of Young Progressives Party, Njideka Ndiwe scored 1,371 and 655 votes respectively.
He commended the various candidates for their peaceful conduct and hailed the voters for turning out en masse during the exercise.
Azikiwe will now fill the seat left vacant by the former lawmaker, late Justice Azuka, who was kidnapped and subsequently killed.
She would serve out his remaining two years.
In Edo, INEC declared Barrister Omosede Igbinedion winner of the Ovia Federal Constituency by-election.
The election took place across two local governments of Ovia South-West and Ovia North-East , both forming the Ovia Federal Constituency in Edo.
Announcing the results early Sunday morning at Iguobazuwa, the returning officer, Clement Ighodaro, declared Igbinedion, the winner with a total of 77,053 votes.
Her closest rival from the PDP polled 3,838 votes, while the ADC candidate came third with a total of 925 votes.
In her victory speech, Barrister Igbinedion thanked her supporters and pledged to deliver impactful and effective representation at the National Assembly.
Igbinedion was first elected into the House of Representatives in 2015 and would now return to represent Ovia Federal Constituency for the second time.
Also, INEC declared Dr Joseph Ikpea of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of Edo Central Senatorial by-election.
INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Kingsley Omo-Iwoze, announced the results in the early hours of Sunday at the official collation Centre in Ubiaja, Esan South-East Local Government of Edo.
Ikpea secured a total of 105,129 votes to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Joe Okojie, who polled 15,146 votes.
Addressing the media shortly after being declared the winner, the Senator-elect, Ikpea thanked God for his victory and the people of Edo Central, who made his victory a reality.
Ikpea expressed heartfelt appreciation to the electorate for their overwhelming support, noting that their votes were not just for him, but an expression of trust in Governor Monday Okpebholo and the APC’s developmental agenda for Edo.
He described Okpebholo as a visionary leader, whose unwavering commitment to grassroots governance and party unity contributed significantly to the electoral success.
Ikpea also lauded the APC leadership and the by-election campaign council for their coordination, discipline, and tireless efforts.
The senator-elect promised to prioritise legislation and interventions in infrastructure, youth empowerment, education, healthcare, and strengthening traditional institutions in the district.
In Kano, APC emerged as the winner of the Ghari/Tsanyawa supplementary election in Kano State.
According to the Returning Officer, Prof.Muhammad Waziri of Bayero University, APC candidate Garba Ya’u Gwarmai secured 31,472 votes, defeating his closest rival, Yusuf Ali Maigado of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), who garnered 27,931 votes.
The supplementary election was necessitated by the initial poll being declared inconclusive.
Also, Mr Dogari Daje of APC won Saturday’s by-election to fill Munya Constituency’s seat in the Niger State House of Assembly.
Daje polled a total of 12,556 votes, while his closest rival, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Sabon Sunday, scored 5,646 votes, resulting in a difference of 6,910 votes.
INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Abdulkarim Saka, from Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna, announced the result at the INEC Area Office, Sarkin Pawa in Munya Local Government Area of the state.
He said the APC won 10 out of the 11 wards, with PDP securing only one ward.
Reacting, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Niger, Ahmed Garki, described the election as transparent and credible.
The Commissioner of Police in Niger, Adamu Elleman, commended officers for their dedication ensuring a peaceful and violence free process.
In their separate remarks, Mr Aminu Najume, Chairman of Munya Local Government Area and Mr Maurice Majaji, Commissioner for Land and Survey, applauded the peaceful atmosphere that enables voters to freely exercise their franchise.
Some of the electorate who spoke including Prof. Danlaldi Hakimi, said the large turnout of voters was a result of the relative peace now being enjoyed in Munya Local Government, but there was still need for improvement.
He advised the the candidate of the PDP to accept the result in good faith and prioritise the interests of Munya Local Government, saying “it is God who gives power and only one person can be declared a winner.”
In Jigawa, INEC declared APC winner in the Garki-Babura Federal Consituency by-election.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Sani Ibrahim-Ismail, announced the result on Sunday in Babura, headquarters of Babura Local Government Area of the state.
He said that APC’s Muktar Rabi’u scored 38,449 votes, to defeat his closest opponent, Isa Auwalu of the PDP, who polled 13,519 votes.
“I Prof. Sani Ibrahim Ismail, hereby certify that I am the returning Officer of Babura-Garki Federal Constituency by-election held on 16th August 2025.
“The election was contested, the candidates received the following votes: Bilkisu Bashiru of Party A received 11 votes; Ibrahim Habiba of Party AA received 5 votes and Umar Bashir of ADC got 48 votes.
“Saleh Sani of Party AAA received 446 votes while Muktar Rabi’u Garki of the APC got 38,449 votes, Adamu Dahiru of APGA got 77 votes and Umar Muhammed Gana received 37 votes.
“Abdullahi Usman of APP 31 votes, Sabo Salisu of NNPP 2,931 votes, Isa Auwalu of PDP 13,519 votes Yushau Alasan of SDP 21 votes and Muktar Babangida of ZLP 31 votes,” Ibrahim announced.
The by-election followed the death of Isa Yaro, who passed away on May 10, 2024.
The election was generally peacefully amid high turnout of voters including the Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar and Mrs Suwaiba Ahmad, Minister of State Education.
Mr Fidelix Bagudu of APC also emerged winner of Saturday’s by-election for the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in Kaduna State.
The results was announced by Prof. Abubakar Jumare, Returning Officer at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office on Sunday in Kaduna.
Jumare declared that APC’s candidate, Bagudu scored 34,580 votes to defeat his closest rival, of the PDP who secured 11,491 while ADC candidate recorded ADC 3,477 votes.
The results gave Bagudu a leading margin of 23,089 votes leading to his victory at the polls.
In Kogi, Mr Hassan Shado of APC was declared winner of Dekina-Okura II Federal Constituency by-election held on Saturday.
Prof. Emmanuel Enenche-Onome, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, announced the results on Sunday.
Enenche-Onome, said Shado scored a total of 55,073 votes to beat his closed rivals; Meliga Godwin of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Egene Joseph Ugbede of Allied Peoples Movement (APM) who scored 1,038 and 445 votes respectively.
He said, “I do hereby declare that Mr Hassan Shado having scored the highest votes, is hereby returned the winner of the Dekina-Okura II by-election in Kogi.”
The election, which recorded low turnout, saw six of the 18 registered political parties contested the election.
The parties are Accord Party, African Democratic Congress, All Progressives Congress; Allied People’s Movement, Social DemocraticParty and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The by-election was conducted to fill the vacancy created by the death of a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Enema Paul, on December 14, 2024, following a protracted illness.
In Adamawa, APC won Ganye Constituency by-election into the State House of Assembly.
Announcing the results on Sunday in Ganye, Prof. Tukur Ahmed, the INEC Returning Officer, said Musa Misi of APC scored 15,923 votes to defeat Buba Joda of PDP, who scored 15,794 votes.
“Having satisfied the requirements of the law, Musa Misi of APC is here by declared the winner ,” he said.
The by-election was held as a result of the demise of Abdulmalik Musa of the APC in May 2024.
Musa appreciated the electorate for the confidence response in him.
He assured that he would actively represent the constituency by facilitating projects that would be of benefit to the constituents.
Martins Babale, former Deputy Governor of the state and APC stalwart, described the election as credible and peaceful.
Babale commended the Federal Government for commencing the rehabilitation of the 40 years abandoned Ganye-Bulo-Jada road.
