A 40-year-old businesswoman, Omolara Aluko, is facing trial at an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates` Court in Ibadan, Oyo State for allegedly attacking her daughter with red-hot electric iron.
Aluko was arraigned on Thursday for a charge of inflicting injuries on her daughter’s body with hot iron.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Adewale Amos, told the court that the mother allegedly assaulted the 12-year-old junior secondary school student with the iron and caused her bodily harm.
“The woman put hot iron on her daughter’s lap and arms and in the process, injured her.’’
Amos said the accused, who had packed out of the girl’s father’s house, inflicted injuries on her because she absconded from home for three days.
According to him, the offence was committed on January 19 about 4 p.m. at Iyaganku area of the cosmopolitan city.
The offence contravened Section 338 (1) & (2) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The woman pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N20,000 on self recognition.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Durosaro-Tijani, adjourned the case to March 2 for hearing.
