The new pro-Western government in Bulgaria is to provide further military aid to Ukraine so that it can defend itself against Russia.

According to the government press office on Monday, the Cabinet of Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov approved a new “military and military technology” aid package for Ukraine last Friday.

No details were given. It was only said that the package would be similar in size to Bulgaria’s first aid package for Kiev from the end of 2022.

There had also been no details about that at the time.

The former Eastern bloc country, which has been a NATO member since 2004, still has Soviet-designed armaments.

A dispute over support for Ukraine has already flared up between the government in office since June 6 and President Rumen Radev, who is considered friendly to Russia.

Radev warned that Bulgaria would be joining the EU initiative to supply ammunition, which he opposes.

Defense Minister Todor Tagarev had announced greater Bulgarian support for the EU’s efforts to supply the ammunition Ukraine needs.
