The final result of last Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections in Zamfara State says President Muhammadu Buhari of All Progressives Congress (APC) has defeated his closest opponent of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, with 313,259 votes.
This was announced by the Returning Officer of the poll, Prof. Kabiru Bala, at the end of the collation of results on Tuesday in Gusau.
Bala said while Buhari polled 438,682 votes, Atiku scored 125,423 votes.
He, however, reported that many of the local government returning officers complained of attacks by either bandits or hoodlums leading to the rejection of a total of 18,785 votes across the 14 local government areas of the state.
The returning officer thereafter called on all the political party representatives present to endorse the results, after which he proceeded to Abuja for submission at the national collation centre.
Buhari also polled 836,496 votes to beat Atiku who scored 71,788 votes in Borno State.
Prof. Saminu Ibrahim, the state Collation Officer, announced the results after collation from the 27 Local Government Areas of the state on Tuesday in Maiduguri.
He said that the state had 2,319,434 registered voters, out of which 987,290 were accredited for the election.
Ibrahim added that a total of 955,205 votes were cast, out of which APC scored 836,496 votes and PDP scored 71,788 votes.
He stated that the exercise recorded a total of 919,786 valid votes and 35,419 rejected votes.
Ibrahim disclosed that some incidents were recorded during the election in three Registration Areas (RA) and 12 Polling Units at Abadam, Biu and Kukawa Local Government Areas of the state.
He explained that the incident involved 5,901 voters in the affected areas.
The collation officer commended the electorate, stakeholders and party agents for the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Muhammad Makintami, the agent of the APC and other agents have accepted the results and signed the documents on behalf of their parties.
However, Alhaji Zanna Gaddama, the Chairman of the PDP, had earlier rejected the result.
Gaddama alleged that the number of accredited voters did not tally with the total number of votes cast in the election.
He further alleged that PDP’s agents were muzzled by security agents and APC supporters at the polling units.
“Card Readers are not used and our agents were not allowed to exercise their duties in representing the party in the election.
“There is serious alteration of the election results, we reject it in its entirety and we will seek redress in court,” he said.
In Anambra State, Atiku recorded 524,728 votes.
The State Returning Officer, Prof. Francis Ogbonaya, announced the result on Tuesday at the National Collation Centre of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
Ogbonaya also announced that Buhari scored 33,298 votes in the state.
He also announced that Gbor Terwase of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) scored 30,033 and Felix Nicholas of the Peoples Collation Party (PCP) scored 4,374 votes among others.
Ogbonaya said that the state has 2,389,332 total registered voters, 675,273 voters were accredited, 625,035 as total vote cast, 605,734 as total valid votes, and 19,301 as rejected votes.
He also disclosed that the state recorded 69,395 cancelled votes in seven local government areas in 114 polling units in the state.
Meanwhile, a representative of APGA raised an observation that the party state chairman briefed him that there was no voting in Onitsha North and hoodlum also attacked Opoko Local Government of the state.
Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who said he has yet to receive any petition since the collation started, promised to attend to all petitions.
INEC also declared Atiku as the winner of the election in Oyo State.
The result was announced at the National Collation Centre (ICC), Abuja, by Prof. Suleiman Abdulkareem, Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, who is the Collation Officer for the election in the state.
Abdulkareem said Atiku polled 366,690 votes to defeat Buhari, who scored 365,229 votes.
Mr Obadiah Mailafia of African Democratic Congress (ADC) was third with 40,830 votes.
According to Abdulkareeem, Yusuf Yabagi of Action Democratic Party (ADP) polled 25,384 votes, Omoyele Sowore, African Action Congress (AAC), 4,041 votes and Donald Duke, Social Democratic Party (SDP), 766 votes.
He said the total registered voters in the election was 2,796,542.
“A total of 905,007 voters were accredited, while total votes cast was 891,080, out of which 54,549 was rejected,” he said.
Atiku is also leading in Bayelsa State.
Buhari recorded victory in two of the seven Local Government Areas – Nembe and Southern-Ijaw – as announced INEC.
The state has eight LGAs, but seven have so far been announced by INEC.
Atiku has won in five council areas.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Zana Akpagbo, announced on Tuesday in Yenagoa that APC polled 31, 811 votes to defeat PDP, who polled 7, 167 votes in Nembe LGA.
In Southern-Ijaw, APC also polled 47, 627 as against 41, 629 scored by the PDP in the area.
In Ekeremor LGA, PDP scored 21, 857 to defeat APC that got 9, 097. Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA, PDP polled 16, 040 to defeat APC, that got 3, 938 votes while in Yenagoa LGA, PDP got 37,676 votes defeating APC with 7, 483.
In Brass LG, PDP polled 15,936, while APC scored 5,913 and in Sagbama LG PDP had 30,122 votes to defeat the APC with 7,949 votes.
The seven LGAs so far announced are Yenagoa, Kolokuma/Opokuma, Nembe, Brass, Sagbama, Southern-Ijaw and Ekeremor.
Results from the remaining Ogbia local government area of the state, where former President Goodluck Jonathan hails from, are yet to be collated.
