President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Modibbo Hamman Tukur as a Director of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).

Mr Femi Adesina, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, who made this known in a statement in Abuja on Monday, said the appointment was in accordance with the provision of Section 5(1) of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) Act 2018.

“This was contained in a letter dated January 7, 2019 to the Senate President seeking the confirmation of the nominee by the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly,’’ he added.

Tukur, from Adamawa State, is a holder of Master of Science (MSc) degree in International Business.

He is currently an Assistant Director in the NFIU, and has vast international experience in illegal assets recovery.

The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) is the Nigerian arm of the global financial intelligence Units (FIUs) domiciled within the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as an autonomous unit and operating in the African Region.

The NFIU seeks to comply with international standards on combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism and proliferation.
