The Lagos State House of Assembly has lauded  the outgoing administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, for laying  foundation for a more prosperous Nigeria in the last eight years.

The assembly has also  challenged the incoming administration to build on some of Buhari’s policies and improve on them where necessary.

The Chairman, House Committee on Information, Security and Strategies, Mr Setonji David gave the commendations to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday.

The eight years tenure of the president will come to an end on May 29,  while the new administration of the President-elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu will commence.

David extolled Buhari’s administration for dislodging Boko Haram terrorists in the North East and tackling infrastructural decay which he inherited from the Peoples Democratic Party administration in 2015.

He said: “The Buhari administration is closing on a very strong note, he has succeeded in reducing insecurity,  especially in the North-East region that he met in 2015.

“This outgoing administration has also provided several infrastructure across the country, like no other administration.

“This President, particularly,  assented to legislations more than any previous president, especially in the last four years. He also assented to the recent constitutional amendment.

“On behalf of this house of assembly, we are grateful to him and we are proud of this administration because the country has been able to achieve so much, regardless of his shortcomings in few areas.”

David said under President Buhari, Nigeria had seen the most ambitious legislative program in its history, adding that several landmark bills had been  amended and passed.

The spokesperson said Buhari’s administration had extended more support than any other administration in the area of bailout packages to state governments, so that they could meet their salary and pension obligations.

The spokesperson, however, scored Buhari low in his fight against corruption and on revamping the economy, saying he did not perform as expected.

He said: “His tenure came with the agenda of anti-corruption and at least in the first four years of his administration, we saw an attempt at addressing the issue of corruption to the extent that the country’s ranking in corruption globally came down for a while.

“However, the fight against corruption was not sustained to greater levels as expected  and has continued to affect the nation’s economy.

“But You  can  give it to the President on the aspect of spate of infrastructural development that sprang up in many places like that of the second Niger Bridge.

“Others are the construction of good road networks here and there, the proliferation of institutions in some places, these are some of the positive achievements one can say his tenure has achieved.”

David said the new administration of Sen. Bola Tinubu would be sworn in on May 29 and it was going to be continuity in  those areas that lacked optimal performance in the  Buhari administration.
