Minister of Aviation, Mr Osita Chidoka, said on Tuesday in Abuja that a robust aviation sector would be handover to the Muhammadu Buhari administration on May 29.
Chidoka said this while inaugurating a Tele-presence equipment, a telecommunication aided conference platform, aimed at boosting interaction between the ministry and its parastatal agencies.
He said that President Goodluck Jonathan would be handing over a robust ministry that would require the commitment of the incoming government to maintain the standard.
The minister said that the Tele-presence equipment would aid telephone conference between him and the heads of aviation agencies in different locations in the country.
He said that the initiative was another attempt in the ministry’s quest to leverage on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for easy flow of information and communication.
According to him, the chief executives of the agencies suffer a single problem of being in two different locations across the country making constant need for meetings imperative.
“We thought that some of the issues that bring them to Abuja can actually be routinely sorted out if we can sit down over a conference call and get everybody together and discuss.
“I hope that as the new government comes, one of the priorities will be to build the aviation house that will house the ministry and its agencies properly.
“This vision of One-Aviation and the vision of a performance-driven customer-focused aviation industry is a vision that we have pursued up to this point,” he said.
During the demonstration of the equipment, the minister held a brief meeting with the heads of aviation agencies in Abuja and Lagos on the preparations for the forthcoming security audit in June.
The directors-general of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) were part of the Tele-conference.
Others were the managing director of Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Rector, Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria and staff.
At the end of the presentation, Chidoka said that the ministry would soon instal Wi-Fi in all the international airports and 12 others across the country.
He also expressed hope that his successors would continue to pursue the vision of modern aviation driven by technology in order to meet global best practice.
