The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) says the 2023 National Bible Day slated for May 5 will be used to pray for the country’s transition to another regime and God’s gift to humanity.

This is contained in a statement signed by the BSN Manager, Media and Public Relations, Mr Benjamin Mordi, on Tuesday in Lagos.

The statement said that the Bible Day was set aside to celebrate and reflect on God’s gift to humanity.

It encouraged everyone to participate in the National Bible Day celebration through studying, meditating, and reflecting on the Word of God.

According to the statement, the National Bible Day is celebrated annually across Nigeria by churches, schools, and other Christian organizations.

“It is an opportunity to highlight the importance of the Bible and encourage its study and application in our daily life,” it said.

The statement quoted the General-Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of BSN, Pastor Samuel Sanusi, as saying that the socio-economic and security challenges facing the nation would be greatly reduced if people adopt and live by godly values.

“If the global community could celebrate Workers’ Day, Independence Day, Water Day, Literacy Day, and other days, set aside to be remembered, it will be ideal for us also to use a day to celebrate the Bible.

“The Bible is God’s gift to humanity,” Sanusi said.

He said that the Bible Day should be used to pray for the well-being of the nation, especially as it transits from one regime to another.

The BSN is a not-for-profit interdenominational Christian organization that translates the Bible into Nigerian languages, publishes, distributes, and raises funds for the Bible work.

The organization also organizes programs that engage people with the word of God to transform their lives.

So far, the society has translated the full Bible in 27 Nigerian Languages with ongoing Bible translation/revision projects in 10 Nigerian languages at their respective stages of completion.

It costs the society a minimum of N120 million to complete a Bible translation project if achieved in eight years.
