Bolt: Tyson Gay deserves to be ‘kicked out of athletics’

Usain Bolt believes his fellow sprinter, Tyson Gay, should be “kicked out of the sport”, describing the United States Anti-Doping Agency’s decision to reinstate him as “the stupidest decision I’ve ever heard.”
Gay, who still holds the record of the second fastest man on the planet after Bolt having run 100m in 9.69 seconds in 2009, tested positive for anabolic steroids in 2013 but received just a one-year ban as he co-operated with Usada.
His results since July 2012, the date he first used the banned substance, were annulled as a result and the 32-year-old was forced to return the silver medal he won in the 4×100 relay at the London Olympics two years ago.
Upon his return to the sport last year, the American said he felt “welcomed with open arms”, something that riled Olympic champion, Bolt.
He said: “I was really upset about that. He got a year just because he talked to the authorities about how it was done and who helped him.
“That sends the wrong message: ‘If you do it and get caught, just tell us all you know and we’ll lower your ban.’ It’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. The message should be: ‘If you cheat, you’re going to be kicked out of the sport.'”
Bolt and Gay are expected to line up alongside each other at the summer’s World Athletics Championships in Beijing and the Jamaican admits he “is not looking forward” to the reunion.
“It really bothers me. I’m not worried about him beating me. I think it’s because I respected him so much over the years. He was a competitor, kept me on my toes and he pushed me to always do my best. Then to find out that he was on drugs, it’s a bit like I think parents must feel when they have a kid who does something bad and lets them down. I feel like he let me down and let the sport down.”
