In a move Nigerians are finding difficult to believe, Stephen Abuwatseya, the Bolt driver who was assaulted in a viral video by a member of the House of Representatives representing Aba North/South (Abia State), Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, has apologised to the lawmaker.
Twenty four hours after the video went viral, Ikwechegh himself apologised, not only to Abuwatseya but Nigerians, the National Assembly and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
After his arrest, Ikwechegh was arraigned before an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court and later granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in the like sum.
In a video on Thursday, Abuwatseya felt remorseful for the altercation during a delivery of a package to Ikwechegh.
He appealed to all that got offended by the actions to forgive him.
He said it was clear that he had a misunderstanding with Ikwechegh but he was using the opportunity to apologise to him over the provocative utterances to him.
“I want to tell Nigerians that it’s not time for us to start dividing ourselves based on religion, tribes or regions. We should actually come together, see how we can unite this nation and move it forward”.
Abuwatseya called for unity and forgiveness among Nigerians of all strata and ethnic background.
He thanked family members and well-wishers for their support at such challenging period of his life.
To Abuwatseya, the apology comes as Ikwechegh had issued a public statement, acknowledging his actions and expressing regrets over his behaviour during the altercation.
