Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State has expressed hope that the Boko Haram insurgency would soon come to an end in spite of barbaric and unjustified suicide attacks.
The governor made the remark on Wednesday in Damaturu in a statement by Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, his Special Assistant on Media.
He said, “in view of the all-hands-on-deck approach adopted by the Federal Government, insurgency will soon come to an end.”
Gaidam condemned Wednesday’s suicide attack in Damaturu in which 18 persons died and eight others were injured.
He described the attack as “barbaric and cowardly.”
The governor, while commending the security agencies for their efforts to improve security in the state, he urged them to step up surveillance to prevent insurgents and criminals from further attacks.
He condoled with the families of the deceased and ordered immediate and free medical treatment for those who sustained injuries in the attacks.
“Already three out of the injured victims have been referred to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala Kano for further medical care at government expense” he said.
Gaidam urged Yobe residents not to relent in their support and cooperation with security agents.
He urged them to continue to pray to Almighty Allah for restoration of peace and security in the state.
