A body found on the roof of a London building is believed to be that of a stowaway who fell from a British Airways flight, police said on Friday.
“The cause of death in Thursday’s incident has yet to be declared as the investigation continues.
“However, he is believed to have hidden with another man in the wheel of a plane flying nearly 13,000 kilometres from Johannesburg to London.
“Authorities were alerted on Thursday about a possible stowaway on the flight, which had landed at Heathrow Airport.
“A short time later received a call about the body on the roof, over which the plane had flown,’’ a police source said.
She said that the second alleged stowaway is in a London hospital in critical condition.
He was believed to be 25 to 30 years old, while his identity is not yet known.
A British Airways spokeswoman said the airline is cooperating with police in Britain and authorities in South Africa in the very rare incident.
People flying in passenger planes outside the pressurised cabins were subjected to freezing temperatures and a lack of oxygen at the high altitudes at which the aircraft fly.
