Elders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), met in Lagos on Thursday,27th April, to appraise the outcome of the 2023 General Elections, and its aftermath and resolved as follows:
1. That the problem of the party in the State started with the complete lack of proper management at the National level, which led to the state Congress organised and conducted by Gov. Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, in 2021.
The Congress was without doubt very shambolic and INEC’s report on the exercise stated that it was inconclusive. However, the National Chairman at the time, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, against all appeals by the elders in Lagos and for reasons best known to him, affirmed the result of the Congress, already declared inconclusive by INEC and thereby sent the party to the bottom of the sea.
2. Consequently, everyone should go and cool off now until the election tribunal petitions are decided. We will do a comprehensive post-mortem analysis, when the truth will be known and whatever the outcome, we will ensure that the party will have a breath of fresh air.
3. We realised that those who bought forms and became candidates have been so battered, but they should wait till the end of the tribunal decisions, when the truth shall be told and corrections will be permanently made that no interlopers in the future will be allowed within the confines of the PDP again in Lagos State.
4. All the agitators, who do not know the culture and practice of the party should sheath their swords, especially as it appears that there is an attempt to decimate the PDP in Lagos.
