Bloody elections in Kogi, Osun, Oyo, Enugu, Rivers, Anambra

Gunmen struck across many states during the Governorship and House of Assembly elections on Saturday, leaving blood and deaths behind.
In Kogi State, one Abu John Simon was killed by people suspected to be security agents who shot him and another person for trying to stop them from carting away ballot boxes in Olamaboro.
It was learned that the security agents accompanied APC thugs to the Ugojo unit where PDP was leading. A popular politician in the area was said to have led the thugs and security agents, carting away ballot boxes in area believed to have been won by PDP.
In Osun State, one Shakir was shot in Ede North Local Government by a soldier for refusing to allow the ballot box to be carted away.

Shakir is in a critical condition in an emergency ward of a teaching hospital and Freedom Online learned that he has lost two fingers and his private part to bullets.
An eye witness says scores of others were harassed and molested by military men at the unit.
In Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, Temitope Olatoye (Sugar), a serving federal lawmaker representing Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency of Oyo State in the National Assembly, was shot dead.
Olatoye was shot dead by unknown gunmen.
He was reportedly rushed to the Accident and Emergency Centre of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, where he was confirmed dead.
UCH Public Relations Officer (PRO), Toye Akinrinlola, confirmed his death in Ibadan.
Akinrinlola said Olatoye  died from gunshot in UCH Intensive Care Unit.
“The AIG Police, Zone 7, the Oyo Commissioner of Police, Chief Medical Director  and other top police officials are in UCH now.
“We have formally  told the family of his demise,’’ Akinrinlola said.
The deceased contested and lost the February 23 senatorial election in Oyo State on the platform of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) to the former Senate Leader, Kolawole Folarin.
It was learned that Sugar was coming from his Igbo Elerin Village around Lagelu where he had gone to vote. He was shot in the eye and rushed to the Accident and Emergency Unit of UCH where he died.
It was gathered that Sugar and another politician in the area had had a clash over the election, where the Rep allegedly shot and killed a boy, noting that a reprisal action led to his being shot.
Two hours earlier, a PDP supporter, Mudasiru, was shot dead by a police officer in Ile Titun area of Ibadan South East local government.
Mudasiru, in his late 20s, was said to be jubilating over the victory of his party, when the officer fired shot which hit the boy from the back and ruptured his intestine.
Eyewitness said that the boy was quickly rushed to a traditional healer, Chief Kehinde Ege’s house in Ita Ege, for extraction of the bullets.
“As Ege was almost getting the bullet out, the boy gave up the ghost having lost too much blood”, said a source.
In Enugu, the state police command has commenced investigation into the alleged shooting and death of one Osondu Odoh, a 30-year-old supporter of Senator Ayogu Eze.
Spokesman of the command, SP Ebere Amaraizu, made the disclosure in a statement in Enugu on Saturday.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer said that Odoh, the senator’s supporter was not an election observer as being erroneously believed and circulated by unconfirmed sources.
He, however, said that the shooting took place at Eze’s residence at Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of the state.
“The Command through its operatives has commenced a full scale investigations into the alleged shooting and death of one Osondu Odoh, aged 30 years.
“The deceased was believed to be at Ayogu Eze’s residence at Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State on Saturday, March 9,” he said.
He said that the victim was not an election observer but a supporter, adding  “ the circumstance surrounding the incident are being investigated, the deceased body has been deposited at the mortuary,” he said.
Ayogu Eze’s supporters were gathered earlier in the day at his residence protesting the omission of his name in the Independent National Electoral  Commission’s ballot paper for the governorship election.
They urged him to boycott  the election.
The candidacy of Eze was confirmed on Thursday by the Court of Appeal after the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court ordered his replacement by a fellow APC contender, George Ogara.
He boycotted the election  as some of his supporters also refused to vote, calling for rescheduling of the election to allow their candidate campaign.
In Rivers State, two people were also killed by suspected thugs while attempting to cart away ballot boxes. some INEC adhoc staff ran away when the thugs invaded the polling unit.
In Anambra State, the police confirmed the killing of two persons in Obosi area.
The police also confirmed that a total of 47 persons were arrested for various electoral offences ranging from disruption of elections, malicious damage, thuggery, assault and unlawful possession of firearms.
Of the 47 suspects, 18 have been transferred to the CIID Awka for discreet investigation after which they would be charged to Court for prosecution.
A source at Obosi said on Saturday in Awka that the killings took place when armed thugs attempted to hijack electoral results at Umuota Obosi area.
He said the thugs who came in a commercial bus at about 5 p.m. and were trying to compel the INEC team to handover the electoral materials at about 5pm when the two were gunned down.
But, a statement issued by SP Haruna Mohammed, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), stated that the killing resulted from a clash between two rival cult factions.
“It was clash between the Black Axe and Vickings Confraternity that led to the death of two yet to be identified persons at Obosi”, Mohammed stated.
He added that police had commenced investigations to unmask the killers whom he said fled after killing their victims.
The PPRO further stated that the command recorded another incident of shooting and disruption of voting at Agulu township polling unit.

He said that three suspects were arrested and a locally made Pistol with four live ammunition recovered.
“Another shooting incident took place at Nwanebo Primary School 1 and 2 inside Immaculate Catholic Heart Church premises Uga in Ekwulobia involving two private security guards of the church following a scuffle.
“One of the security guards, Ngozi Goodwill, shot his colleague, one MO Justice Anyadike, aged 26 years on his leg.
“The bullets of the expended cartridges also brushed five other persons who came to vote at the polling booth and they sustained minor injuries and were treated”, he said.
He said that the principal suspects were arrested and two pump action, seven live cartridges and one expanded cartridge were recovered.
Other incidents recorded during Saturday’s election included rescue of a presiding officer, one Meniri Njideka of Nawfia, allegedly abducted at Afor market square unit Mbaukwu in Awka South LGA.
He said the corps member was treated at the Police Clinic Awka and discharged.
“Other offences recorded included thuggery at Nri in Anaocha LGA, Umouji ward in Ogidi and Nteje where the Command responded promptly and effected some arrests.
Exhibits recovered included two double barrel guns, one locally made pistol, four life ammunition, and three expanded ammunition.
Other exhibits are One Toyota Hilux, one L300 Bus, 291 ballot papers, one motorcycle, some dry leaves suspected to be cannbis sativa and cash worth N173,420.
