Blatter expresses ‘deepest sympathies’ at Moshoeu loss

FIFA President, Sepp Blatter, has expressed his “deepest sympathies” over the passing of 49-year-old former South Africa international, John “Shoes” Moshoeu.
Moshoeu, who made a major contribution to South Africa’s 1996 CAF Africa Cup of Nations-winning team, died from stomach cancer on April 21, 2015.
He was capped 73 times for South Africa, scoring eight goals, but it was his influential role in the 1996 title winning side that endeared him to South Africans. It was an historic success that came two years after the end of apartheid and the election of Nelson Mandela as president.
“His many contributions to the game will be remembered, especially winning the 1996 African Cup of Nations where he scored four goals. We, at FIFA, are truly sorry to hear of his loss,” Blatter wrote in a letter to his South African Football Association counterpart, Dr Danny Jordaan.
“On behalf of the international football community, I wish to express my deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones.”
