Kukah: With Ahmed Joda gone, the North is at best now a huge graveyard

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Rev. Matthew Kukah, on Thursday, advised Federal Government to appoint leaders who would be able to implement its policies.
Kukah gave the advice in Lagos at a programme tagged “The Platform Nigeria’’, organised by the Covenant Christian Centre in Lagos to mark the 55th Anniversary of Nigeria’s independence.
He said leaders should be able to use government policies to develop the economy in spite of the fact that some of these policies might not make the desired impact.
He added that “government should review its structure of governance because it has affected the ability of past leaders to function well.
“The country needs leaders who will facilitate development of the policies and not accidental leaders who are in the office to loot the nation’s wealth.’’
Kukah described the zeal by leaders to steal public fund as the MTN slogan “everywhere you go’’, adding that it was time leaders and their followers displayed positive attitude in all their endeavours.
He called for the establishment of a strong institution that would imbibe positive knowledge on leaders and the people for the development of the country.
Prof. Pat Utomi, an economist, who also spoke at the event, urged leaders to tap into all the sectors of the economy because the country was well endowed with adequate natural resources.
He, however, urged leaders to be more dedicated to the service of the country.
