Funeral rites of former Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi (Big Boss), began on Thursday with a requiem mass in Benin, Edo State.
The funeral mass was held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport Road, Benin.
Keshi died on June 8 in Benin.
His corpse was brought to the church where he worshipped with his family and friends.
The presiding priest, Rev. Father Richard Ofere, in his homily, said Keshi lived an exemplary life as a member of the parish and contributed selflessly to the development of Nigerian football.
Father Ofere stated that Keshi was willing to serve even in the midst of scarce resources and urged the living to believe in resurrection as death was not the end of a true Christian’s life.
President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, who attended the event, described Keshi as a “super hero” who was renowned for doing the extraordinary.
“I have always described him as a ‘super hero’ because he was a super hero. He did not do things that were regular, he did things that were extraordinary.”
