BCPG, NBA in Efforts to Stem Building Collapse in Lagos, Nigeria Organise Advocacy Program

Efforts to stem incidents of building collapse in Lagos and Nigeria is on top gear as the Building Collapse Prevention Guild, BCPG, Ikeja in collaboration with the Nigeria Bar Association, Ikeja branch has put together an advocacy programme for stakeholders .

The advocacy program slated for tomorrow Wednesday, October 25, 2023 is meant to sensitise Nigerians about the menace of building collapse in Lagos and advanced ways bring the menace into an end.

Speaking at a press conference in Ikeja, Lagos, Chairman NBA Ikeja branch, Mr. Oluseyi Olawumi said a lots of prominent Nigerians have been lined up as speakers during the one day advocacy programme.

Toping the list is human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana, who is the keynote speaker.

Other Panel of experts are Dr. Olawale Banmore, Architect Gbolahan Oki, QS. Ayuba Akere, Dr. Bamidele Onalaja and other seasoned experts will address the subject, “Building Collapse and Application of Punitive Laws in Lagos State”.

In her remarks, Coordinator BCPG, Ikeja cell, Bldr. Mrs. Zulaikha Iyabode Bolarinwa said the guild was formed 15 years back when professionals worried by the spate of building collapses in Lagos State and Nigeria decided to come together for advocacy to stop the incidents and save lives.

She said it is one hand to make laws but that enforcement of the law is another.

She said the trends and pattern of collapses have increased due to lack of punitive measures.
