Bayelsa polls: Police read riot act to political parties, politicians

Bayelsa

Bayelsa State Government has reassured teachers at primary and post primary school levels on prompt payment of their salaries and allowances and called on them to reciprocate the gesture by showing more commitment to their duties.
Giving the assurance during a one-day workshop on the preparation of monthly payment vouchers and nominal rolls held at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Memorial Banquet Hall, Yenagoa on Tuesday, the state Commissioner for Education, Deacon Markson Fefegha, said the issue of preparation of vouchers in line with the Governor Seriake Dickson’s administration’s transparency policy became imperative, noting the sharp practices perpetrated by some unscrupulous elements in the system.
The seminar, according to him, would assist in addressing the issue of voucher preparation to ease the payment process adding that the Dickson-led administration is very passionate about the teaching profession.
He said: “I am sure that most of you have received the two halves and we are working assiduously so that by next week you would receive your other month salary so that you would not only be at par but will be ahead of other civil servants in the state.
Speaking in the same vein, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Jonathan Obuebite appreciated the principals for their cooperation, and urged them to put in extra efforts at ensuring that they prepare an all-inclusive payroll.
He scored the government high in educational transformation in the state, and called on all to unite to ensure the safety of the infrastructure put in place by the government.
The resource persons, who were selected from the account department of the Ministry of Information, and the Treasury, took time to lecture the school heads on how to go about in preparing the voucher, noting that in moving forward, they will be totally responsible in preparing and paying of teachers’ salaries in their various schools.
