Bayelsa APC meeting: Pandemonium as defected PDP chair slumps

There was pandemonium in Nembe, Bayelsa State at the weekend when former State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Colonel Sam Inokoba (rtd), slumped during a Town Hall meeting.
Inokoba was said to be talking when he started feeling uncomfortable.
“Then, he slumped, leading to pandemonium during the meeting”, a source told Freedom Online.
The septuagenarian politician, who marked his 70th birthday last April, was taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
The source said: “In fact, when it happened, nobody was sure of what was going on. Some people ran to help him. Others ran away to come back later when he was being taken to the hospital. Some of the leaders around told everybody not to disclose the incident to anybody”.
This attempt to conceal the incident has angered the Ijaw Young Professionals (IYP).
Spokesman of IYP, Seighfa Tonye-Brown, in a statement in Yenagoa, berated the APC for attempting to hide the unfortunate incident.
According to him, “the action of the APC leadership is suspicious and not in good faith”.
He called on Inokoba’s family and the general public to hold APC responsible should anything happen to the former PDP chairman. “Should anything untoward happen to Colonel Inokoba, the action of APC would be called to question”.
During his admission, some family members stormed the hospital. Some of them suggested that he should be taken to a better hospital in Yenagoa, the state capital but “the doctor on duty told them that he must be stabilised first before being moved”.
