More sanctions have come the way of three Nigerian basketball referees less than a month after the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) suspended them from officiating after they flouted its order not to officiate in the illegal Africa Basketball League which began in Lagos on March 5, 2016.
The referees namely Olusegun Adekambi, Afeez Olayiwola Alimi and Samuel Abiodun Shofoluwe were handed the worldwide suspension by basketball’s world body, FIBA which wrote the NBBF through the African body, FIBA Africa which had also earlier endorsed the decision of the NBBF.
Writing though its Head of Refereeing, Mr. Carl Jungerbrand, FIBA acknowledged receipt, through FIBA Africa, the letter from the NBBF suspending the three referees and issued an order suspending them with immediate effect from active FIBA Referees list.
As a result, FIBA stated that the trio “cannot be nominated for any official or friendly international games according to the FIBA Internal Regulations”
